Brasil Petroleum Studies President Dr Marcio Mello says Namibia’s offshore oil deposits could contain 100 billion barrels.

On Tuesday, Dr Mello told the ongoing Namibia International Energy Conference that geological data underscores the potential for over 100 billion barrels of unrisked oil reserves.

He said Namibia also has hundreds of prospects yet to be drilled.

“There are prospects that have not been drilled yet.

“How about the Walvis and Luderitz basins? The petroleum systems have not been proven yet.

“We have already mapped, and the results showed several giant discoveries. Both systems are oil-prone and are in peak to post-peak oil generation in the entire study area,” Dr Mello said.

Dr Mello’s presentation was on titled The Orange Basin Supergiant Deepwater Petroleum Province in The South Atlantic Margin: What About Walvis & Lüderitz Basins?

Another session titled Exploring Namibia’s Onshore

and Offshore Hydrocarbon Potential, moderator by the chief executive officer at Kariya Energy, Dr Gerd Nji, a Nautilus Mining and Energy independent consultant, Fernando Sylvester, said the Portuguese company Galp Energia’s Mopane reserve could be holding 10 billion barrels.

Sylvester also estimated that TotalEnergies’ Venus reserve to contain anything between 8-10 billion barrels, with Graff sitting on anything between 23-23 billion barrels.
