Bannerman Energy has appointed former Debmarine Namibia executive Danie van Aswegen as chief executive officer of Bannerman Mining Resources Namibia, placing an experienced Namibian mining project specialist at the helm of its local operations as the company moves forward with the Etango uranium project.
The appointment, announced on 23 October 2026, follows Van Aswegen’s year-long tenure as Bannerman’s chief operating officer in Namibia, a position he assumed in October 2025.
Van Aswegen brings more than 25 years of mining industry experience to the position, spanning engineering, mining operations, project management and technology development.
Before joining Bannerman, he served as head of projects and technology development at Debmarine Namibia, where he was also a member of the company’s executive committee.
During his time at Debmarine, Van Aswegen played a role in delivering major projects and introducing new technologies into the company’s marine diamond mining operations.
His appointment brings experience from Namibia’s offshore diamond industry into the country’s expanding uranium sector, with Bannerman drawing on his background in major mining projects to strengthen the leadership of its Namibian business.
Van Aswegen will work alongside Bannerman Energy managing director and chief executive officer Gavin Chamberlain, who has extensive experience in mining construction, engineering and project management across southern Africa.
Chamberlain previously served as the project director responsible for developing Namibia’s US$2 billion Husab uranium project, which has become one of the world’s largest operating uranium mines.
The combination of Van Aswegen’s experience at Debmarine and Chamberlain’s involvement in the development of Husab gives Bannerman’s leadership team experience in delivering large mining projects in Namibia.
Bannerman’s Etango uranium project is one of the country’s major uranium developments, with the company strengthening its management structure as it progresses the project.
Van Aswegen’s appointment also marks his transition from overseeing Bannerman’s Namibian operations as chief operating officer to leading its local subsidiary as chief executive officer.
The company has not disclosed whether a replacement will be appointed to the chief operating officer position.
