BW Energy says the drilling program for the Kharas appraisal well in Namibia is on track for 3Q of 2025, with rig bids received and selection in progress.
The Kharas appraisal well is located in the northern portion of the Kudu licence.
The company is working closely with other operators in the Orange Basin to explore the everyday use of available resources.
BW Energy currently holds a 95% operated ownership interest, with Namcor holding a remaining 5% working interest with an additional 5% back-in right upon the first gas, subject to certain conditions.
BW Energy is advancing an updated development strategy for the Kudu gas-to-power project, incorporating a modified semi-submersible drilling rig to serve as a floating production unit.
This repurposed facility will streamline the project timeline and substantially decrease capital investments compared to previous development approaches.
Board approval was secured in 2024 to drill up to two appraisal wells for which long lead items have been procured.
The project is advancing to spud one appraisal well in the second half of 2025.
In 2024, BW Energy processed ~5,000 square kilometres of Pre-Stack Depth Migration3D seismic survey over the Kudu licence, which was completed to enhance the depositional model further and identify potential upside targets.
