Namibia’s energy sector activities call for Luderitz town to be designated an energy hub.
Petroleum commissioner Maggy Shino said the rationale behind this designation is that the town of Luderitz has demonstrated an exceptional potential to play a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s energy future due to its strategic geographic location and proximity to current discoveries.
Shino also said Luderizt is close to the existing infrastructure and facilities with growth potential, renewable energy potential and our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Shino said that investment in infrastructure development is key to making this dream a reality.
“This does not, however, eliminate the excellent service currently offered from Walvis Bay town, which we observe to be getting slowly but surely congested.
According to Shino, Namibia holds great promise because of its unmatched offer of peace and stability.
She said Namibia’s fiscal regime and legislative framework are amongst the best and carefully approach the management of the resources through a benefit-for-all approach encapsulated in our Welwitschia Sovereign Wealth Funds and the Local Content Policy aspirations.
“With extreme environmental ambitions and standards enshrined in our Constitutions, Namibia is poised to be an exemplar in the energy sphere. We therefore invite you here today to be part of our growth.
“We now roll out the red carpet for you to invest in the Namibian oil industry, which will be an investment in a sustainable energy future as we navigate the complexity of the energy transition. The call for us as players and participants in this industry is to undertake our activities with profound responsibility.”
