The leadership of Swakop Uranium has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to responsible mining, innovation, and community partnership in shaping Namibia’s sustainable energy future.

In their joint 2024 sustainability message, CEO Qiu Bin and Chairman Luo Wei underscored a shared vision that unites operational excellence with environmental care and social progress.

Both leaders highlighted the company’s role in the global shift toward clean energy. As one of the world’s largest uranium producers, Swakop Uranium provides fuel for low-carbon power generation while upholding rigorous environmental and governance standards.

In 2024, the company achieved record production, completing maintenance targets and processing 118 million tonnes of material, while sustaining a total workforce of 4,300 employees and contractors—around 18.5 per cent of Namibia’s mining labour force.

The CEO noted that Swakop Uranium’s purpose extends beyond extraction, focusing on stability, safety, and shared growth.

The company achieved a net profit of N$562 million, reduced unit sales costs by 4 per cent, and invested heavily in skills development. A total of N$26.38 million was channelled into employee training and upskilling, with further education programmes linking Namibian workers to international leadership exchanges in China through the CGN Egret Leadership and URC International Uranium Talent Training Programme.

Both messages placed strong emphasis on safety and environmental stewardship. Swakop Uranium achieved a five-star NOSA certification in 2024 and expanded initiatives, including mural projects, biodiversity awareness drives, and community clean-ups. Conservation of Welwitschia mirabilis and the implementation of improved water management systems remain central to its sustainability plan.

Community empowerment continues to define Swakop Uranium’s corporate character. Under its “Invest in Education” campaign, the company funded ICT classrooms, hostel refurbishments, and feeding schemes in schools across Namibia.

Other projects, including livestock donations, the Hope Farm initiative, and partnerships under the Peace Swakopmund programme, aim to strengthen livelihoods and support vulnerable communities.

Chairman Luo Wei framed the Husab operation as a model of international cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, reflecting shared values of green growth, technological innovation, and mutual prosperity between Namibia and China. He affirmed that Swakop Uranium’s governance is guided by integrity, transparency, and sustainability, ensuring that the mine’s benefits extend beyond its lifespan.

Together, the CEO and Chairman set out a unified message – Swakop Uranium’s future lies in mining that powers both economic development and environmental preservation.

Their vision is clear—to ensure that every tonne of uranium extracted at Husab contributes to Namibia’s prosperity and to a cleaner, carbon-neutral future for the world.
