Rhino Resources has discovered natural gas and light liquid hydrocarbons at its Volans-1X exploration well on Block 2914A in Namibia’s Orange Basin.
The company confirmed that the well, drilled to a depth of 4,497 metres, intersected 26 metres of high-quality reservoir containing gas and valuable liquids.
Tests showed no water contact and indicated a strong presence of light hydrocarbons, similar to those found in crude oil.
Rhino said this is the third successful discovery on the block, following earlier finds at Sagittarius-1X and Capricornus-1X, and opens up a new exploration play in the area.
The company and its partners — Azule Energy, Namcor, and Korres Investments — will now continue testing the samples and integrating the results into wider studies.
