Namibia’s first onshore oil exploration well was Berseba-1, drilled in 1928 by the South West Africa Petroleum Corporation in the Nama Basin. The well reached a depth of about 1,009 metres before it was abandoned. The Kavango West-1X well, spudded in late July, has already reached 1,900 metres. ReconAfrica says it is closing in on the Otavi reservoir, a target that could change both the company’s fortunes and Namibia’s energy landscape.
