Reconnaissance Energy Africa (ReconAfrica) says drilling of the Kavango West 1X exploration well, spudded on July 31, 2025, is progressing on schedule.

The company expects to enter the Otavi reservoir, the primary target of the Damara Fold Belt Play, in October and reach total depth by the end of November.

“Our operations team members in Namibia are doing an excellent job on the drilling the Kavango West well, both efficiently and safely,” said Brian Reinsborough, President and CEO of ReconAfrica.

“We anticipate entering the Otavi reservoir in October and plan to penetrate over 1,500 metres of potential reservoir section before reaching TD. We look forward to reporting results of this play opening well to all stakeholders around year-end.”

The well is currently drilling the 8.5-inch section at about 1,910 metres.

The next and final casing string will be set at approximately 2,400 metres, before drilling continues into the Otavi reservoir.

The program is designed to drill between 3,800 and 4,250 metres total depth, with more than 1,500 metres of the reservoir expected to be intersected.

ReconAfrica said it will provide periodic drilling updates in the coming months, with well results expected around year-end 2025.
