Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd. (ReconAfrica) is set to begin drilling its Kavango West 1X exploration well before the end of July, marking its second test in Namibia’s Damara Fold Belt. The company confirmed that all permits have been secured and rig assembly and safety checks are underway at the site.

The well is designed to reach a total depth of 3,800 metres and is expected to penetrate over 1,500 metres of Otavi carbonate reservoir, the primary target of the Damara Fold Belt play.

The Kavango West 1X prospect, which spans 22 kilometers in length and three kilometers in width, was identified using modern 2D seismic data. ReconAfrica has mapped more than 19 prospects in the trend and recently expanded its acreage by 5 million acres in a deal involving neighbouring Angola.

ReconAfrica President and CEO Brian Reinsborough praised the team’s efforts to reach this milestone.

“We recognize the importance of this play-opening well for our shareholders, the local communities in which we operate, and Namibia’s broader energy industry,” he said. “We are committed to safe and efficient operations and ongoing community engagement.”

Meanwhile, the company announced that Iman Hill will step down from its Board of Directors effective 31 July due to foreign work obligations. Hill joined the board in August 2023.

Following her departure, ReconAfrica’s board will continue with five members, three of whom are independent.

Board Chair Diana McQueen expressed appreciation for Hill’s contributions. “We thank Iman for her work and guidance over the past two years and wish her well in her future endeavors,” McQueen said.

The company also extended its gratitude to Namibian regulators and communities for their cooperation and support as it advances drilling preparations.
