Langer Heinrich Mine has temporarily suspended all operations because of the heavy rains.
Paladin Energy, which has a 75% stake, says the unseasonal rains impacted access to the mine.
The company says the full impact of the weather event and disruption to production will be assessed when conditions have stabilised.
“In assessing status, the safety of our people and contractors is our priority,” Paladin Energy says.
The Langer Heinrich Mine is in the Namib Desert, about 80km east of Swakopmund and 85km northeast of the Walvis Bay major deepwater harbour.
Namibia has experienced unprecedented heavy rains in the past few days in recent years.
The Met Office says Namibia is in the second rain season and has warned of more rain and thunderstorms.
The office also says the wet weather conditions will continue until April 2025.
Already, the rains have affected the inauguration of Namibia’s first female president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who has been moved from the Independence Stadium to the State House.
The information ministry stated on Thursday, March 20, 2025, that the events would be at State House due to the weather conditions, and only 500 people would attend because of limited space.
