The Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Investment Awards finally handed over the honorary award to President Hage Geingob on Tuesday during the ongoing COP 28 Summit in Dubai.
The NDC Investment announced Geingob as the recipient of the African Presidential “Green Infrastructure Investment Statesman” of the Year Award in November 2023.
The award recognises exemplary Presidential investment leadership on Africa’s climate transition.
The NDC is part of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Action plan to cut emissions and for countries to adapt to climate impact.
All the countries that signed the Paris Agreement must establish an NDC and update it every five years.
African Green Infrastructure Investment Bank (AfGIIB) sponsors the NDC Investment Awards, which were launched in Kigali, Rwanda, during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in June 2022.
Ironically, Namibia is one of the African countries that have yet to submit their NDC plans by 23 November 2023.
The only African countries that had submitted are Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, DRC, Ethiopia, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Niger, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Togo and Zambia.
According to Geingob, Namibia needs US$15b to implement the Nationally Determined Contribution by 2030.
