Namibia has renewed ReconAfrica’s exploration period for the second time from 30 January 2024 to 29 January 2026.
ReconAfrica, with its partner Namcor, are exploring for oil in the Kavango region of Namibia under PEL 73, where they own a land package measuring about 6.3 million acres.
The terms of the second renewal exploration period are that ReconAfrica will acquire additional subsurface data, including either 500km of 2D seismic data, 1,200 km of Enhanced Full Tensor Gradiometry data, or a combination of both.
Additionally, ReconAfrica will be required to design and drill one exploration or stratigraphic test well.
ReconAfrica’s CEO Brian Reinsborough said the company exceeded its work commitments by drilling three stratigraphic test wells.
Reinsborough also said ReconAfrica acquired over 2,750km of 2D seismic and a ~5,000 km2 Enhanced Full Tensor Gradiometry survey.
“We look forward to executing an efficient exploration program as we commence our drilling program to test the high potential Damara Fold Belt and oil-prone rift plays,” Reinsborough said.
