The Marula-1X well on Block 2913B under PEL 56 in the Orange Basin has come up dry after being drilled to 6,460 metres.
Block 2913B covers approximately 8,215 km² in deep offshore Namibia.
No hydrocarbons were encountered in the primary target in the Marula-1X well, and no drill stem test was performed.
A comprehensive analysis of the well results is now underway.
TotalEnergies is the operator with a 40% working interest, alongside QatarEnergy (30%), Impact Oil and Gas (20%) and Namcor (10%).
The joint venture used the Deepsea Mira semi-submersible drilling rig on the Marula fan complex, about 47 Km south of the Venus-1X well.
Africa Oil & Gas, through its 39.5% interest in Impact Oil & Gas, has a compelling interest of approximately 3.8% in the block.
Impact Oil & Gas has a 9.5% interest in Blocks 2912 and 2913B, which contains the discovery of Venus light oil.
Africa Oil president and CEO Roger Tucker says the farm-down agreement between Impact and TotalEnergies, which was completed last year, provides full coverage of Impact Oil & Gas exploration and development costs on Blocks 2912 and 2913B through to the first commercial production from these blocks.
“This offers us an attractive opportunity to test different geological plays on these blocks at no upfront cost,” Tucker says.
