Portuguese energy company Galp has appointed former NAMCOR executive Saave Nakashole as its Deputy Country Manager for Public and Operational Affairs in Namibia, strengthening its local leadership as it advances its offshore oil interests in the Orange Basin.

The appointment comes as Galp continues to build its Namibian operations following its Mopane oil discovery, one of the country’s largest offshore finds in recent years.

Nakashole joins Galp after spending 14 years at the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR), where she played a key role in subsurface evaluations, asset assessments, upstream business development and the assessment of commercial opportunities.

During her tenure at NAMCOR, she worked closely with government institutions, international oil companies and joint venture partners, while also serving as a board member of the Namibian Petroleum Operators Association (NAMPOA).

In announcing the appointment, Galp said Nakashole would support the company’s public and operational affairs agenda, strengthen engagement with national stakeholders, and contribute to the development of its activities in Namibia.

“Saave joins Galp with extensive experience across Namibia’s energy sector, combining technical expertise in geoscience with a solid track record in upstream development, asset evaluation, stakeholder engagement and institutional collaboration,” the company said.

Galp added that her appointment reinforces its commitment to expanding local expertise and strengthening institutional collaboration as it develops its Namibian portfolio.

“Her appointment reflects Galp’s commitment to reinforcing local expertise, fostering constructive institutional collaboration and supporting the responsible and sustainable development of Namibia’s energy sector, in alignment with the country’s development priorities,” the company said.

Nakashole is a geoscientist by training and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and Environmental Science from the University of Namibia, a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Geology from Rhodes University and a Master’s degree in Petroleum Geosciences from Heriot-Watt University. She also holds a certificate in Project Management and completed the Senior Management Development Programme at Stellenbosch University.
