Deep Yellow Limited has appointed Ausenco Services Pty Ltd. to deliver detailed engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) services for the Tumas Project.
Ausenco has been involved in the Tumas project since 2019, working on the definitive feasibility study and the December 2023 re-costing addendum.
The Tumas Project will be Deep Yellow’s first mining operation and flagship development.
The project, which comprises Tumas 1, 2, 3, Tumas Central, and Tumas 1 East, received a mining license in December 2023.
In January 2024, Deep Yellow said it would release the final investment decision for the Tumas uranium project in Q3 of 2024.
The company said the Tumas project will be Namibia’s fourth uranium mine, with one of the largest known paleochannel-hosted calcrete uranium deposits and an indicated mineral resource of 108.5 Mlb at 265 ppm eU3O8.
Deep Yellow plans to develop Tumas to produce 3.6 mlb of U3O8 per year, with an anticipated life of over 30 years.
The parties will execute a detailed engineering agreement to advance key workstreams before the final investment decision and finalise an entire EPCM contract.
Deep Yellow managing director and CEO John Borshoff said that selecting Ausenco as the preferred EPCM contractor for the Tumas Project is a significant project milestone.
Borshoff said Ausenco is a market-leading engineering firm highly regarded within the industry for its technical ability and track record of project delivery.
“Having Ausenco on board will complement the project delivery team and add significant value to the exciting Tumas Project in a period of extended positive outlook in the uranium supply sector,” Borshoff said.
Ausenco president Reuben Joseph said they fully understand the project’s exciting potential and Tier-1 status.
“We look forward to working with Deep Yellow and providing our extensive skill set and market-leading engineering and project delivery experience,” Joseph said.
