Namibia is looking for local content visible in industrialisation, capacity building, and skills and technology transfer within the country’s capabilities.
This was part of a speech the petroleum commissioner, Maggy Shino, gave during Tuesday’s opening day of the International Association of Drillers Conference in Windhoek.
Shino urged Namibians to play their part consciously and only have engagements that contribute to building the country’s capability.
She also said local content is a must and not an option good to have in the Namibian petroleum industry.
“As an enabler for economic growth, we are looking for inclusive participation beyond just employment,” Shino added.
According to Shino, the call for energy transition is loud, but the Namibian answer to that call is even louder.
She said Namibia will produce energy resources to close that deficit gap.
“Namibia, she added, will develop her fossil fuel for economic growth and industrialisation.
“We have an ambitious development agenda, including one of the world’s biggest renewable energy developments, an aggressive green hydrogen plan in motion, a growth ambition inclusive of blue hydrogen production, and much more,” she explained.
Shino said Namibians are positively responding to the call for energy transition, which gives a unique opportunity to address climate change early enough by designing all activities to be low-emission developments.
“With our massive resources and smart regional cooperation, our gas to power, and combined with the world-class power infrastructure we can, we will contribute to energy security for Africa,” she said.
