Namibia exported goods worth N$6b from the mining and quarrying industry, absorbing 50.6% of total exports in November 2023.
The Namibia Statistics Agency says uranium was Namibia’s largest exported commodity, accounting for 23.3% of total exports, and was solely destined for China.
The agency says precious stones (diamonds) came second, accounting for 20.9% of the total exports, with 3.3% re-exports mainly destined for Botswana.
Non-monetary gold ranked third in the list, contributing 12.3% and was mainly destined for South Africa.
Copper and articles of copper, primarily re-exports destined to Belgium, took fourth place, contributing 5.2% of the country’s export bill.
Nickel ores and concentrates were in fifth position, 8.6%, solely destined for Canada.
According to the agency, products from the mining and quarrying industry increased by N$3.8 billion compared to October 2023.
The top five commodities re-exported in November 2023 were copper and articles of copper, occupying the first position with a share of 21.2%, primarily destined to Belgium and precious stones (diamonds) followed in second place with a share of 13.5% destined to United Arab Emirates, Belgium and Botswana.
